Meet the Directors

Hi! I am Chanda Stafford; student, teacher, sports enthusiast, environmental steward, poet and lover of the creative arts.
I am a former GLOW camper and I am super elated to be able to give other teenagers in Grenada the camp GLOW experience. My hope is that it empowers and inspires others just as much as it inspired me.
I can’t wait to meet our 2022 GLOW girls!

Ayisha Josephine Sylvester-John is a native New Yorker who spent her childhood summers in Grenada, climbing trees for fruit and looking under river stones for crayfish with her many cousins, on her grandparents property in St. David’s. After a long hiatus she came back to Grenada on vacation, fell in love with the island all over again and moved here. Ayisha works as a customs clerk for North South Trading in Lance Aux Espine.  Ms. John is a Co-Director of Groundation Grenadaa social action collective which focuses on the use of creative media to assess the needs of our communities, raise consciousness and act to create positive radical growth. She is also a Founding Member and one of the Directors of The Grenada Community Library, a grassroots effort born out of the need for a library and resource center to facilitate the needs of both the children and adults of St. Georges.
Ayisha has been with Camp G.L.O.W. since it’s beginning in 2012 and has been a Director/Counselor ever since. She says “This journey/adventure that is Camp GLOW has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my lifetime. I get to interact with today’s youth, empowering them with the skills to make a difference in both their lives and the lives of those around them.”
In her spare time (what spare time?) she enjoys yoga, a good book and the beach.

A stalwart from Grenada, also known as the Spice Isle; my name is Deserie John-Belfon. I am an advocate of meaningful education and believe that it is the key to guiding persons on a path of fulfillment in life. My bliss ascends from knowing that I’ve helped a person grow, change and become a better version of themselves. I taught at a special education school for 10 years and I am currently an itinerant teacher for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired.
I’ve devoted 8 years of voluntary service at camp GLOW Grenada both as a counselor and director, and those years have blessed me with unbreakable bonds. After a 2-year break, I am happy to be back!!!
I am delighted to welcome our new cohort of GLOWrious girls who will experience the transformative journey that Camp GLOW offers.
